SECTION – A (20 Marks)

READING COMPREHENSION 45 Periods

There shall be two unseen passages (including poems) with a variety of questions like Objective Type Questions , Short Answer Questions and Multiple Choice Questions, including 04 marks for vocabulary such as word formation and inferring meaning.

Multiple Choice Questions (1x6=6marks),
Objective Type Questions ( 1x6= 6marks),
01 Short Answer Question (3x1=3marks),
01 Long Answer Question (5x1=5marks)

The range of the two passages including a poem or a stanza, should be 900-1000 words as per the following details:
1. The passage of 550-600 words in length will be used for note-making and summarizing.
2. The passage of 350-400 words in length will be used to test comprehension, interpretation and inference.

OR

3. An unseen poem of 28-35 lines to test comprehension, interpretation and inference.
The passages as given above could be of any one of the following types:

Factual passages, e.g., illustrations, description, reports / Discursive passages involving
opinion, e.g., argumentative, persuasive/Literary passages e.g. extracts from fiction, biography, autobiography, travelogue, etc. In the case of a poem, the text may be shorter than the prescribed word limit.

SECTION B (30 Marks)

WRITING SKILLS AND GRAMMAR 60 Periods

Writing

1. One Short Answer Question: Based on notice/ poster/ advertisement- 4 Marks
2. Two Long Answer Questions: Letters based on verbal/visual input. – (6x2=12 Marks)
It would cover all types of letters. Letter types may include:
(a) business or official letters (for making enquiries, registering complaints, asking for and giving information, placing orders and sending replies)
(b) letters to the editor (giving suggestions/opinions on an issue)
(c) application for a job with a bio-data or résumé
(d) letter to the school or college authorities, regarding admissions, school issues, requirements / suitability of courses, etc.
3. Very Long Answer Question: Composition in the form of article/speech/report writing or a narrative- 8 Marks

GRAMMAR ( 6 Objective Type Questions)

Different grammatical structures in meaningful contexts will be tested. Item types will
include gap filling, sentence re- ordering, dialogue completion and sentence
transformation. The grammar syllabus will include determiners, tenses, clauses, modals
and Change of Voice. These grammar areas will be tested through 6 objective type
questions on the following:

A. Error Correction, editing tasks
B. Re - ordering of sentences,
C. Transformation of sentences

SECTION C (30 Marks)

LITERATURE 70 Periods

Questions from the prescribed texts to test comprehension at different levels, like literal, inferential and evaluative will be asked.
1. Two Objective Type Questions out of three - Based on an extract from poetry to test reference to context comprehension and appreciation. – (1x2=2 Marks)
2. Five Short Answer Questions out of six (3 questions should be from Hornbill) - Based on prose, poetry and plays from both the texts. (2x5=10 marks))
3. One Long Answer Question out of two from Hornbill (to be answered in120-150 words) Based on prescribed texts to test global comprehension and extrapolation beyond the texts. 6 Marks
4. One Long Answer Questions out of two from Snapshots (to be answered in120-150 words) -Based on theme, plot, incidents or events to test global comprehension and extrapolation beyond the texts. 6 Marks
5. One Long Answer Question out of two from Hornbill (to be answered in120-150 words)-Based on understanding appreciation, analysis and interpretation of the characters/events/episodes/incidents .

Assessment of Listening and Speaking Skills 45 Periods
Assessment of Listening and Speaking Skills will be for 20 marks. It is recommended
that listening and speaking skills should be regularly practiced in the class.

TIME MANAGEMENT- for Class XII Board Examinees

Dear buddies,

During exam, it's very important how you manage your time, i.e. the given 3:00 hours to complete your paper of 100 marks.

Here are some TIPS

Reach the School premises 15/20 minutes before 10.00 AM (i.e. around 9.30 AM) as it is your first day of exam. You will be allowed to enter the Exam Hall at 10.00 AM. 

Your Exam timing is 10.30 hrs. to 01.30 hrs. You will get your question paper at 10.15 Hrs. as 15 minutes time is given to you as Reading Time.

So total time you get is 180 minutes+15 minutes = 195 minutes.

As soon as you get the paper, look at the question paper quickly and start reading any one of the Reading Passages from Section-A. For example, you start Q.No. 1. If you finish reading the passage within the 15 minutes reading time, you can start writing your answers on that passage sharp at 10:30 A.M. Try to stick to the following Break up if possible.

Section - A

Q.N. 1.  RT 15+WT 25= 40 minutes  (10.15 to 10.55 )

Q.N. 2.  Read 10+Write 15=25 min. (10.55 to 11.20 )

If  You choose to attempt Section C before B Section, then

Section - C

Q.N. 7.  Extract from Poetry  (1x4=4 marks)  = 10 min.   (11.20 to 11.30 )

Q.N. 8.  SQ from TEXT   (3x4=12 marks) = 15 min. ( 11.30 to 11.45)

Q.N. 9. LQ from Text     (1x6=6 marks) = 10 min. (11.45 to 11.55)

Q.N. 10. LQ from TEXT (1x6=6 marks) = 10 min.  (11.55 to 12.05)

Q.N. 11 & Q.N. 12. LQ from NOVEL (2x6= 12 marks) = 20 min. ( 12.05 to 12.25 )

Section - B

Q.N. 3. Notice/Poster etc. = 4 marks = 8 min. ( 12.25 to 12.43 )

Q.N. 4. Letter etc. = 6 marks = 10 min. ( 12.43 to 12.53 )

Q.N. 5. Article etc. = 10 marks = 10/12 min. (12.53 to 1.10)

Q.N. 6. Debate/Speech etc. = 10 marks=  LAST 10/12 min. (1.10 to 1.25)

REVISE quickly any left out words etc. 1.25 to 1.30 p.m. Its very important to revise all the answers you have written.

Why have I chosen to attempt Section - B at the last ? 

Because, your writing speed will become the FASTEST in the last hour of your exam. So you can finish the last two questions of 10 +10 marks in 10+10 minutes. If the last question becomes little bit short also, you can finish it by writing - Speech By/Debate by and submit at the last moment. i.e. 1.30 p.m. sharp.
