TIME MANAGEMENT- for Class XII Board Examinees

Dear buddies,
During exam, it's very important how you manage your time, i.e. the given 3:00 hours to complete your paper of 100 marks.

Here are some TIPS

Reach the School premises 15/20 minutes before 10.00 AM (i.e. around 9.30 AM) as it is your first day of exam. You will be allowed to enter the Exam Hall at 10.00 AM.

Your Exam timing is 10.30 hrs. to 01.30 hrs. You will get your question paper at 10.15 Hrs. as 15 minutes time is given to you as Reading Time.

So total time you get is 180 minutes+15 minutes = 195 minutes.

As soon as you get the paper, look at the question paper quickly and start reading any one of the Reading Passages from Section-A. For example, you start Q.No. 1. If you finish reading the passage within the 15 minutes reading time, you can start writing your answers on that passage sharp at 10:30 A.M. Try to stick to the following Break up if possible.

Section - A
Q.N. 1.  RT 15+WT 25= 40 minutes  (10.15 to 10.55 )
Q.N. 2.  Read 10+Write 15=25 min. (10.55 to 11.20 )

If  You choose to attempt Section C before B Section, then

Section - C
Q.N. 7.  Extract from Poetry  (1x4=4 marks)  = 10 min.   (11.20 to 11.30 )
Q.N. 8.  SQ from TEXT   (3x4=12 marks) = 15 min. ( 11.30 to 11.45)
Q.N. 9. LQ from Text     (1x6=6 marks) = 10 min. (11.45 to 11.55)
Q.N. 10. LQ from TEXT (1x6=6 marks) = 10 min.  (11.55 to 12.05)
Q.N. 11 & Q.N. 12. LQ from NOVEL (2x6= 12 marks) = 20 min. ( 12.05 to 12.25 )

Section - B
Q.N. 3. Notice/Poster etc. = 4 marks = 8 min. ( 12.25 to 12.43 )
Q.N. 4. Letter etc. = 6 marks = 10 min. ( 12.43 to 12.53 )
Q.N. 5. Article etc. = 10 marks = 10/12 min. (12.53 to 1.10)
Q.N. 6. Debate/Speech etc. = 10 marks=  LAST 10/12 min. (1.10 to 1.25)

REVISE quickly any left out words etc. 1.25 to 1.30 p.m. Its very important to revise all the answers you have written.

Why have I chosen to attempt Section - B at the last ?
Because, your writing speed will become the FASTEST in the last hour of your exam. So you can finish the last two questions of 10 +10 marks in 10+10 minutes. If the last question becomes little bit short also, you can finish it by writing - Speech By/Debate by and submit at the last moment. i.e. 1.30 p.m. sharp.

TIPS for Class XII students-Section C

Dear students,

Section C of your English Core paper consists of 6 questions carrying 40 marks (Q.NO. 7 TO Q.NO.12)

You need to cover the following:
1. The poems & their poets. Extract questions are very easy. Just think what is asked in the question and try to give very short answer of 01 or 02 sentences. (01x04=4)
2. Short Questions ( at least 5 each) of all the chapters. You need to answer 04 questions of 3 marks each (04x03=12).
3. Just read the story once again and revise the questions.
4. Long questions should be at least of one page length. (6 marks each)
5. There are 04 long questions. (04x06=24). Try to answer all the 04 questions.
6. Practise writing the answers of some long questions asked in your 1st and 2nd Pre Board Exams OR you can find at least 02/03 previous year CBSE question papers.
7. This time, there are 02 questions from the Novel. So, give some time on the novel questions also. Your batch will be the last batch with the NOVEL.
8. See old question papers, CBSE board papers and find frequently asked questions.
9. If you see at least 5 year's question papers, answer the short and long questions, that will be a good preparation for Section-C.
10. Ensure that you are not leaving any question un-answered.
11. In the short questions, you will find alternatives, choose the question you can answer the best.
12. For Long questions also, you will be given two questions each, think which question you know better and then start answering it.

Any score around 30 and above is not a bad score for this section. Just attempt all the questions.

ALL THE BEST

TIPS for Class XII students-Section B

Dear all,
In your Exam paper of English Core, Section B carries 30 marks. It consists of four Writing works
1. Short Composition of 4 Marks (any two out of Notice, Poster Making, Advertisement or Invitation)
2. Long Composition of 6 Marks (Normally a letter out of Letter to the Editor/Authority, Making an Enquiry, Placing an Order or Letter of Complaint)
3. Long Composition of 10 Marks ( Normally an article writing work)
4. Long Composition of 10 Marks ( Either writing a Speech for the Assembly or a debate for/against the motion on a given topic or an application for Job)

All the above works are high scoring. Because they carry separate marks for the whole writing work:
a) FORMAT  1/2 mark
b) CONTENT or SUBJECT MATTER  2/4 mark
c) EXPRESSION or FLUENCY 2/4 mark

If you want, you can attempt answering the B section at the end
It will help you in two ways.
1st- You have already answered the Section A & Section C (i.e. 30+40=70 marks)
2nd- If you answer the first two questions quickly, then during the last half an hour also, you can attempt answering the last two questions. The more satisfactorily you complete the work, the more you will score.
Remember, during the last one hour of your exam, you can write the FASTEST. So you can answer an article and the speech/debate easily in 15+15=30 minutes. All the students run short of time during the last one hour of any exam.

So, do the following to prepare well for Section B
1. Revise all the formats of Notice, Advertisement, Invitation, Letters, Article, Speech, Debate etc.
2. Try to answer at least two each of all the above types.
3. In case of advertisement, cover TO LET, FOR SALE, SITUATION VACANT, EDUCATIONAL etc.
4. Answer both FORMAL & INFORMAL Invitation at least 2 each.
4. Write down all types of LETTERS. You can take up any one question paper of 1st and 2nd Pre Board or CBSE Board Exam of previous years.
5. Read some details about some recent and relevant topics. For example, Discipline, Mobile Phone, Exercise & Yoga, Weighty School Bags, Use of Internet-Bane or Boon, Practice of Non-violence, Swatch Bharat-Swastha Bacche etc.
6. Do practice by WRITING again and again.
7. Avoid writing long sentences.
8. Break the write up in 2/3 paragraphs.
9. It will also speed up your writing. You will be able to write quite faster in a few days.
10. Your preparation will never go wasted. It will surely help you in answering all the questions in TIME.

BEST OF LUCK

TIPS for Class XII students-Section A

Hello everyone,
Hope you all are working hard for the Board Exam scheduled from 2nd March'19.
The first paper you are writing is ENGLISH CORE (301)
Here are some simple tips for you:

  • Start revising/reading for the first exam at least 4 days before the exam date. i.e. 26 Feb-1 March.
  • Remember you have to do well in the first exam to give yourself positive feedback for the ramaining papers.
  • Start revising all the sections, one by one.
  • Section A has only 02 questions: Q. No. 1=20 marks (reading Comprehension passage) & Q. No. 2=10 marks (Note Making)
  • For Section A, Read some comprehension passages and try answering the questions. Write the answers on a paper/note book.
  • To find the similar word from the passage, focus on the paragraph, if given within bracket, read it two or three times, you will find the word. It is not the same word you are searching. Its similar/alike in meaning. That's not so difficult after all. You can find the word from the context.
  • For Note making, read another passage and practise making notes for the given passage. Dont forget to add a title and make some abbreviations as well. It will give you two (1+1=2) extra marks certainly.
  • Practise writing the summary from the notes and not from the passage. Try to limit yourself within 100-110 words i.e maximum 10-12 lines.
  • Remember, if you can score high in the Reading section, your Total score will be very good as you have covered 30% of the question paper already. But don't waste lot of time.
  • Try to complete all the questions under this section within 60-70 minutes. (30 marks)
